As a child, Kola was involved with all types of martial arts, including Judo, Karate and kick boxing. Soon after graduating from college with a degree in Psychology, Kola was exposed to Jiu Jitsu. In that moment, he was hit with the “Jiu Jitsu bug”. Today he is proud to share the blessing of this lifestyle with his family of students.
The desire to spread the beauty of Jiu Jitsu is not only a burning passion for Kola, it is a way of life. He believes Jiu Jitsu in its purest form is for ALL PEOPLE TO ENJOY. As a result, his many students over the years have been blessed with his detailed approach to teaching. Kola began his Jiu Jitsu journey in 1996 at the world renowned Rickson Gracie Jiu Jitsu academy in West Los Angeles, California.
He joined the academy at a time when the roster included the likes of Luis “limao” Heredia, Mauricio, Luiz Claudio, Thiago Veiga, Rockson Gracie, Henry Akins, Beau Hershberger, Cristiano Marcello, Niko Han, Gonzalo Medina, Aaron Briley and many other incredible Jiu Jitsu practitioners! It was in this lab that the foundation for Kola’s Jiu JItsu was developed.
As a black belt instructor in the Rickson Gracie lineage, Kola carries the responsibility of keeping the Jiu Jitsu he teaches pure and efficient. His students not only know how to defend themselves very well, but they also enjoy tremendous success in the tournaments they enter. Kola reunited with Rickson Gracie 4th degree black belt Luiz Claudio and Rickson Gracie 3rd degree black belt Thiago Veiga in 2012, as part of the elite LCCT Jiu Jitsu.
“Free your mind of fear. Be open, be positive, and embrace the beauty of your journey” Kola Join The Movement!! After graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in Biology and English, Sam embarked upon a career centered around understanding the efficiency of the human body.
This journey took her through the study of yoga, massage, dance, meditation and martial arts. Her goal was to unleash all the ways the body can move for expression, protection, correction and connection.
Sam is a decorated martial artist. She holds black belts in Karate, Kung Fu, Wushu, and Tai Chi. In addition, she is an extremely technical brown belt in Jiu Jitsu.
A career in the study of the human anatomy as well as an understanding of how to use one’s body for efficiency when in the eye of conflict makes Sam an exceptional resource as an instructor.
At 5ft 1inch, Sam is not physically imposing. This has forced her to always focus on being efficient and precise with her techniques. As a result, her students have the benefit of understanding that the techniques she shows really do work. After all, if she can disarm a man twice her size, then surely so can they.
“Always be learning!!” Saima Latif
